Plannie 1.2: deeper iOS integration - widgets, Siri, Apple Reminders & more!

Last week we hinted that Plannie and your iPhone were about to get a lot closer. Version 1.2 is on the App Store now, and most of it is about exactly that. The family plan now shows up on your Home Screen, your Lock Screen, in Siri and in Apple Reminders, so you can check on the day without opening the app. 📱

Widgets for the Home Screen

There are seven to choose from. Long-press the Home Screen, tap Edit → Add Widget and search for Plannie.

  • Today shows your next events together with the top of a list.
  • Calendar shows what's coming up, for the whole family or one person.
  • List shows tasks from one list, and you can check them off right there.
  • Chores shows today's chores for one family member, with the tickets or stars they're worth. They can be ticked off from the widget too.
  • Meals answers "what's for dinner?", or lays out the whole week. It does lunch as well.
  • Family board puts everyone's day side by side. You choose who gets a column.
  • Glance is the small one for the Lock Screen: what's next, and how much is left to do today.

Each widget has its own settings. Long-press it and tap Edit Widget to pick the list, the calendar, the family member, or whether finished tasks should stay visible. A mum who wants her own day and a dad who wants the kids' chores can each set up their phone their own way.

Ask Siri

Siri can now answer questions about your family's day as well as add things to it. A few to try:

  • "What's happening today in Plannie?"
  • "What's for dinner in Plannie?"
  • "What's on the shopping list in Plannie?"
  • "What chores are left in Plannie?"
  • "Add an event in Plannie"
  • "Add to a list in Plannie"
  • "Mark Empty the dishwasher done in Plannie"

When you add or move an event with your voice on iOS 26 or later, Siri shows a small preview first. You can nudge the time by 15 minutes or change who it's for before saving. Siri speaks English, Swedish, German, Spanish and French, the same five languages as the rest of the app. If you like building your own automations, all of it is in the Shortcuts app as well.

Your shopping list on the Lock Screen

Open a list, tap the cart button and choose Start shopping. The list moves onto your Lock Screen as a Live Activity, and into the Dynamic Island on phones that have one. You can check items off with your thumb while the other hand steers the trolley, and the phone stays locked the whole time. It works for any list, so the packing list on holiday morning is a good one too. Tap Done shopping when you're finished.

Two-way sync with Apple Reminders

Link a Plannie list to a list in Apple Reminders and the two stay in step. Add, rename, check off or delete something on either side and it shows up on the other. That means anything that can reach Reminders can now reach Plannie: "Hey Siri, add oat milk to Groceries" on a HomePod, a tap on an Apple Watch, the Reminders app on a Mac.

To link a list, open it, tap the gear and look for Apple Reminders. If your lists already live in Reminders, go to Settings → Integrations → Apple Reminders → Import lists from Reminders… and bring them over, open items included. Linked lists get a small badge so everyone in the family can see what's synced and by whom, on the web too. Unlinking never deletes anything on either side.

Control Center and the Lock Screen buttons

On iOS 18 and later there are two new controls: Add to Plannie and Ask Plannie. Put them in Control Center, on the Lock Screen's bottom corners, or on the Action button. Add to Plannie can be set to add a list item, an event or a chore, so whatever you just remembered is one press away from being written down.

Smaller touches

  • Reminder notifications have buttons now. Long-press one to mark the habit done, check off the item or dismiss the reminder, without opening Plannie.
  • Your events, lists, chores and recipes show up in Spotlight search. Family members' names are deliberately kept out of it.
  • Plannie works with Focus. Under Settings → Focus → Focus Filters you can hide Habits and Rewards during Work, show only one person's day, or choose which tab Plannie opens on.

How to get it

Update Plannie to version 1.2 in the App Store. Apple Reminders sync and the Lock Screen shopping list are iPhone features. The new controls need iOS 18 or later.

Also worth repeating: Plannie Premium is free for everyone until 15 November, so the whole family can try all of this.
